how's it going guys it is chattier from Lu toons and welcome back to another sidewinding depth defying episode of every animated movie of the year today we checked out Ice Age collision course now I can already hear you guys saying Chad didn't you just release a video of you going to Paris to see a blue sky studios Museum and that it was Fox who sent you there and the answer to that is yes that video was indeed intended to help promote the film on the week of its release and all of the cool stuff I saw and the praise that I gave to the blue sky still stands, however.
I will still be reviewing the movie with an unbiased and open mind just as I have all of the other films, of course, that will seem much more believable to you when you see where the movie places on the list you know what let's just throw two lists right now at the start where we find ice age collision course colliding in right below Ratchet and Clank III I've gotta say you guys I did not think.
I would be putting a movie below Ratchet and Clank this year but say it is what it is and mind you ice age has five times the budget of Ratchet and Clank Oy Vey so a quick rundown of the plot I mean very quick scratch has chased his acorn all the way into space and his raucous antics have gotten so extreme that he has caused a massive meteorite to blast towards Earth ensuring certain doom for the ice age gang and generally everything on earth so the group must find a way to stop it meanwhile mani is dealing with some father problems in coming to terms with his daughter getting married there's some other kind of plot lines but I don't really want to go into them.
I just want to make this fast and painless for us all so I touched on the Paris trip that I just took and I was feeling really inspired about Ice Age off of it and seeing all of the concept art and models and everything it got me kind of hype for this movie I actually thought that the last film continental drift was e naans better than the dyno film but after this film, I've kind of lost faith I think ice age is continentally drifting into the land before time territory and I want to make it expressly clear that this has nothing to do with their similar timeframes Land Before.
Time is infamous for endless amounts of sequels each one selling more direct to VHS or DVD copies than the last kids love the characters and they will return again and again to see them in new adventures and that's kind of where ice age is, unfortunately, the stories of the three main characters had been told probably by the end of the first or maybe a second movie at this point we're really just joining them back for some kooky silly adventure with familiar faces and some new comedic voice actors shoved in a side note.
I would hate to see max Greenfield wasted on this movie he's so great in new girl and he's so great in this movie actually he's the standout I hope he can play another animated role they can really shine in because I think he would totally kill it but that is neither here nor there let's move on so back to the art lots of the majestic art and landscapes that I'd gotten excited about didn't really appear in this film I was actually so let down by the environments of the film that I rewatched Ice Age one which I love just to remind myself of what a beautiful pre historical ice world can look like even in 2002 so look, unlike all the other reviews where I go over animation and voice cast and story.
I just want to say this I've seen the Rotten Tomatoes score of this movie and before you comment saying this franchise should just die to consider this I see these movies on Friday mornings same bat time same bat Fiat er and this time my theater was packed with kids and families and let me tell you straight through this movie was nothing but almost deafening laughter from the young audience.
The movie is let's with jokes about butts and stinky butts and big butts and poop and turds and smelly butt toots and butt turds and smelly big stinky butts yeah but no I'm not kidding I think there are over 50 jokes about butts or farts or turds in the movie but the kids love it so what am I getting at the movie may not have the cerebral depth of something like inside out or dory or the godlike choreography of How to Train Your Dragon or Kung Fu Panda.
But the young kids don't care about the choreography or the heart or the message of a movie they just want to have fun they want to laugh some but to some silly animals and they must have that to see in theaters - ever since I saw Zootopia I've been worried kind of that animated films might become too steeped in reality.
Which is fantastic for an older viewer like me but we've got to remember the young viewers, of course, the movie is still a struggle and I truly feel for parents who have years ahead of themselves watching these films with their kids on repeat over and over at home but still I'm happy to exist just not maybe for me or for you but if you're a parent this is going to be a fantastic way to burn a few hours of your kids time while you recharge your batteries or something like that I hate to reduce the movie to that but that's kind of where I'm landing and yes still normally.
The north is below it so will Ice Age continue on well I'd lean towards a hard yes I wouldn't be surprised if the series went to a straight to digital format then again of every theater I've sat in so far for this every enemy to move in the year series this was the only one that was nearly sold out so probably prepare for a sequel the little prince comes out next on Netflix and then the much asked about sausage party and yes I will be both of those exclusively here on every animated movie of the year you.

So I say ch4 is the only movie that comes out this weekend in the wide release I don't know why I say ch4 is the latest Ice Age movie you know we got these prehistoric creatures and it's a children's family adventure kind of thing where they're in the wild one of the things a series is trying to do is it tries to incorporate times in history in which things happen to change the earth you got Ray Romano as this mammoth Queen Latifah as the wife Denis Leary as the saber-tooth John Leguizamo's there and then my favorite character is scrapped a little squirrel those are always my favorite parts of these movies.
Whenever they show the little squirrel trying to get the Acorn or whatever his little adventures favorite character in the whole movie this movie does it shows how the tectonic plates started shifting and then the continents started drifting into various places and how that affects their family they're trying to get back together because they got drifted apart I'm not really a big fan of the Ice Age films it's like certain animated films are more for families and then something a more for kids like saying the Happy Feet movies this movie is more for the kids.
I will say though that it's not like a movie that you're gonna go and you're just gonna sit there and be like oh that's just so horrible I just can't stand my life right now it's like what I'm watching this am I okay I don't mind washing this the music is really good the CGI is nice but I really don't give a crap about anything they're saying at all and I was kind of thinking there really aren't that many of these children's animated features that have made it all the way to a fourth installment just really Shrek and most people think that after the second film.
They kind of sucked after that the thing is these movies make money they make a ton of money they make their budget back and more so so they're going to make Ice Age movies until that ends because these movies make money and that's why they keep having this really should be called Ice Age for continental cash grab now a friend of mine he brought his two daughters all right and he fell asleep and he rarely ever falls asleep during movies his kids, however, loved it that is like the perfect thing that I could possibly use to explain this movie now there's two-characters in this movie I like I really like Denis Leary as the saber-tooth I just like him for some reason.
I think he's good with the voice acting he actually feels like in some way he was actually contributing something everyone else just seems like they were there because basically, all these factors have to do is stand in a sound booth and read some lines and they get like a million-dollar I think was Chris Rock recently and especially was talking about Madagascar 3 and he was like yeah I just basically sit there and read lines and you get like a million dollars that's exactly what he said that's just that step blows my mind really but I like the saber-tooth character you know and then.
I like to scrap the squirrel his scenes of the best parts the whole movie when he's hunting for these acorns, of course, you have already seen two entire scenes that Scrat has in the trailers for this movie there's a reason they used those scenes to market these movies they're the best scenes in the movie one of the things I did like about this movie though was the villainous character this monkey guy I thought he was pretty cool he was actually neat villain even though he got introduced with a song which is like the most cliched thing you can possibly do to introduce a cartoon villain is have him sing some big evil song.
I kind of like this character he was funny he was an interesting villain this movie has some good action sequences is actually some really cool action in the score by John Powell I could see that in like any type of movie besides this actually being a really good action score he did the born scores you know he's a good composer this movie has this really really corny subplot where the young mammoth thinks the other young mammoth is such a hot stud and she has to impress him uh see when the little mammoth people look at a giant avalanche of some kind and they say epic this is that kind of movie all right it's a family movie.
But it's a kids movie this is strictly a kids movie I really don't recommend seeing Ice Age it's just it's kind of boring it really isn't that good I'm going to give I say just see there's no reason for these movies to continue except for the fact that they make a ton of money and kids love them so if you're basically a teenager or above I would stay away from my stage four and as always guys if you like this review you can subscribe to my channel and get stuck mine eyes

Yes for our blu-ray updated week today I'm going to show you this holiday special called Ice Age in mammoth Christmas special this is a traditional bank blu-ray DVD and digital copy comes with this really glossy and colorful slipcover the front and the back is exactly the same and just so you know the fourth film from the series is called continental drift and is scheduled to be released in 3d July 13th, 2012.
So it also includes a sneak peek of the new ice age continental drift so let's open here let me show you the artwork so you going to show you say three discs this is the flyer one side is talking about the app it's called Ice Age village and on the other side is the code for your digital copy and it is iTunes so here we have the digital copy nice artwork on the digital copy we have the DVD and this is the blu-ray so as you can see we have three different artworks one for the news to copy one for the DVD and one for the blu-ray and the case is not eco-friendly so go figure I paid $10 for this comes with three discs a dish to copy and the case is one of the best cases.
I've seen this TV special it's definitely worth to check it out I'll do it's only 26 minutes it's very entertaining and very funny comes with English DTS HD master audio 5.1 as well as Spanish and French dope due to 5.1 for subtitles it only comes with English and Spanish and for special features, it comes with swinging jingle bells music video it's three minutes long at 1080p High Definition and also a sneak peek ain't you Ice Age for two minutes long and 1080p HD just let me remind you it's not a trailer it's a stage it's a full two minutes long part of the movie alright guys thanks for watching this video and Happy Holidays

Hey how's going everybody today we have ice age dawn of the dinosaurs sort of eight wonderful looking toys released by McDonald's back in 2009 let's get them opened up is Manny the woolly mammoth look at the size of this guy he is huge for a Happy Meal toy this is awesome I really like this one it's very realistic to the show to the movie this is great so he has two gimmicks the first one is there's a little lever right here on the back of his neck and you move his head back and forth by wiggling it and the other gimmick which is really cool there's a little switch right here you flip it on and he talks you ready that's great there you go.
Manny is Diego the saber-toothed tiger oh yeah yeah oh he's an awesome look at those eyes a little bit crooked making him look all kinds of crazy so his gimmick is you push him down just like this and watch this he jumps out oh and one more time you ready here we go oh that's it picks up number three is mama Dino yeah that's a weird name right mama Dino this is really cool so you got a couple of moving legs right here keep moving back and forth position them however you like and it stands quite well so you can leave it on your desktop for a nice display but it's no - gimmick is this watch so mamma Dino Dino is very upset and angry happy.
I'm next to the gimmick so you flip this around at two different heads there is a buck I don't know what buck is can anybody tell me what buck is supposed to be maybe some type of squirrel a weasel or something I'm not really sure but he looked really cool and he's got a couple of moving parts you can rotate the arms all the way around if you like and his gimmick is on the back you flip the switch on check this out pull his arm down and nobody move that's it there you go awesome five innocent is Scrat he looks so cute and cuddly.
He has no moving parts he's solid plastic and his gimmick is you take his acorn right here you stick it into his belly just like this lock it in push this button right here and he shoots his acorn at you oh how rude let's see that one more time for you you ready here we go push that button again boom next up number six is everybody's favorite Cygnus laughs yes he is awesome.
I love cities so cool so he has 3 points of movement you can rotate his head move his arms up and down just like this and there is another gimmick on the back you flip the switch on you ready way to go momzilla and he's got one more everybody loves Syd that's right Rudy the lizard Dino thing I don't even know what is this guy supposed to be he's kind of cool though and he's got some movement so you can rotate his tail back and forth move his legs back and forth just like this and his gimmick is he chomps at you just like this by pulling his arms down ready just like this ready that's kind of scary-looking right
Well there you go and last up to at number 8 is a straight or Scrat a depending on how you like to pronounce it works either way and she has 4 points of movement you can wiggle the feet he's back and forth just like this or moves the arms up and down and again Mike is on the back she has an acorn right here and you push it in then you pop it out what she did pop it out one more time you ready push it in pop it out that's the gimmick so you have everybody ice age three dawn of the dinosaurs sort of eight wonderful little toys released by McDonald's back in 2009 I absolutely love this set I highly highly recommend it you'll love having it in your collection thanks for watching everybody take care see you next time you.

Ice Age the meltdown back in the early The 2000s before the days when the sequels were like a cinematic infestation Ice Age was considered to be something good and enjoyable one of the first movie came out back in 2002 critics and audiences had a lot of fun joining in The Adventures of Sid Manny Diego and Spratt so much so that it even got an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature it proved to be a great start for the blue sky as a potential animation studio as it was also a major hit at the box office and helped computer animation to be the new standard in mainstream animated films so naturally an encore with these characters was inevitable to make ice age not just their first movie but also their first major franchise.
I mean what could possibly go wrong with making an Ice Age sequel other than turning it into an addiction that the moviegoers had to suffer through more than a decade but now that climate change is even affecting the ice age is the love for the franchise still as strong as Manny's for Le or did the franchise's meltdown began in their second film let's find out the story in the first movie it revealed the heartbreaking backstory of Manny where his family got killed by hunters and left him to grow up all on his own possibly making him the only one of his kind this was apparently enough to make him the main focus of the second film where he finds out that maybe he's not the only mammoths left all while

Since the release of Ice Age in 2002 much of the world has come to know and love the films three central characters in many the mammoth Sid the sloth and Diego the saber-tooth Tiger however if we fast forward and take a look at all five Ice Age films that have been released over 15 years we can see that while this franchise has performed exceedingly well at the box-office the critical response has been a clear downward spiral in this episode of second-hand sequels we'll be looking at the first two Ice Age films to discover what was so appealing about the first film and how the second film might have kick-started a decade-long meltdown its facility with the shove the target of Shirley

While the Buddy film genre ties all three of these films together what sets them apart are their story worlds while Shrek portrays a fairy tale world and monsters a kind of alternate universe the story of Ice Age is set amid a prehistoric earth-based in our reality I think this was a really great call by blue sky studios because one it helped to define their unique voice and two it separated their studio from their competition in some very big ways now there are several reasons why the storytelling in Ice Age works.
Well but I think we can boil it down to three basic qualities as the story is clear concise and charming one thing that's very clearly communicated throughout the film is the fact that Ice Age is a comedy in our opening scene watching scrap the squirrel run around trying to hide his acorn and inadvertently causing a massive glacier to break loose and chase them around makes it very clear that we're in for some laughs another great decision was to periodically return the Scrat throughout the film so that even

When we're getting some of these genuinely reflective emotional moments later on the storytellers are always returning us to this goofy cartoony slice of the story to remind us what kind of movie we're watching while the tone is clear throughout the film sense of high stakes is also clear after that opening with scrap we meet a host of animals who is migrating away from their homes because you guessed it the Ice Age approaches this external sense of impending doom pushes the story forward every step of the way and helps to answer a very important question that's essential for us to answer at the beginning of any story what happens if our hero doesn't accept the call to adventure if the answer is that everything just goes back to normal there may be a problem with the story in the case of Ice Age if
Mannion SIDS stick around and refuse to partner on the journey ahead of them they'll almost certainly be wiped out by the icy peril that surrounds them instead the conflict at hand drives many to take action and accept that call to adventure speaking of many it's also worth mentioning that it's very clear what's going on with our protagonist both externally and internally when we're first introduced to our fluffy friend we see him going against the grain in a very visual way.

As he walks in the opposite direction of the mass migration clearly mani is feeling like a loner and is choosing to close himself off to the world around him for reasons that we'll discover later on how this internal reality soon clashes with his external reality which arrives in the form of Sid the sloth who is the perfect opposite to Manning in almost every way however the important similarity is that they're both living on the margins of their society as outcasts when a human child is presented to Manny and Sid out of the blue they're external goal becomes very clear deliver the boy to his human tribe before they reach glacier pass, of course, Manny's motivation is to be rid of the boy so that he can, in turn, be rid of Sid and go back to being alone but like any great quest.

Because they've discovered the child in the river having one event caused the events that follow in a story is very important and sometimes hard to get right a movie can be charming for several reasons but I always like to keep it simple and refer back to the three things that Pixar director Pete Docter says you should always offer an audience something to laugh about something to think about and something to feel I think a story is charming when it offers all three of these things since ice age offers plenty of gags and jokes the laughter part is a no-brainer for something to think about a notable example.

The meltdown was released in 2006 four years after the original we begin basically where we left off Manny Sid and Diego are still together as a happy herd but now they join a safe community of other animals however we soon learned that the ice around them is melting and a vulture lets them all know that if they don't reach the boat at the other side of the gorge in three days they'll drown from the impending flood we soon also learned that many are struggling with the thought of possibly being the last mammoth alive as they set off.
Then we meet le a female mammoth who it turns out thinks she is a possum before we get ahead of ourselves remember that we said the three things that made the first film appealing were the qualities of clarity conciseness and charm when it comes to the ice age to clarity isn't much of an issue we open up with scrap again letting us know we're in for another comedy with some goofy humor we also are made very aware of the high stakes early on if they don't embark on this journey to get to the boat they'll all perish in the flood right, however, some problems start to pop up when we start to look at the element of conflict let's take a closer look in the first Ice Age.

the external conflict is driven by the fact that the Ice Age is looming and Manny's goal becomes to return the human boy to his tribe internally Manny needs to deal with the loss of his family by opening up to his new herd we can also note that the complication here is that there's a betrayal in the making Diego actually wants to lead the group into his saber-tooth herd so that it can bring food to his own kind these elements all interact nicely together because of both Manny's embrace of the human child and Diego's decision to ultimately defend.
Manny and Sid against the Sabres help tell the story of what it means to be a part of a herd or family in the case of the second film the external conflict is similar and that the ice is now melting and the goal becomes to reach the boat before the flood hits internally Manny fears to be alone as the last of his kind and wants to connect with Ellie the other mammoth the complication here is that there's a misunderstanding while Ellie is actually a mammoth she incorrectly believes.
She's a possum while these pieces tied together nicely in the first film they're not quite as cohesive in the second while Diego's secret in the first movie has us begging the question what will happen when they find out Ellie's delusion in the second movie has us asking why hasn't she realized the truth yet while Diego must ultimately make a choice Ellie simply has to realize the truth that's right in front of her which sounds more compelling to you.
Strike two for me comes when we return to the idea of being concise while the first film has that key ingredient of causation in its story beats where this happens and because of that this happens it's Cetera ice age - falls victim to the lazier this happens then this happens model and gets pretty muddy in the middle some examples of scenes that could be rearranged or removed without much being changed include a musical number in which vultures sing about wanting to eat the animals and a sequence where CID is taken in the middle of the night - a sloth gathering.

Where they attempt to sacrifice him these events don't really affect other parts of the story and so when this happens over and over we kind of start to emotionally check out as an audience on top of all that when it comes to charm we've got the laughs but are really lacking something to think about and something to feel we don't have a powerful idea like the heard from the first film to learn with our protagonists and the developing relationship between Manny and Ellie isn't compelling enough to really pull on our heartstrings so to recap we have the element of clarity in Ice Age.
But are really lacking in conciseness and charm and one out of three isn't nearly enough in this case in some ways storytelling is kind of like plate spinning to offer something compelling you have to keep a lot of different elements moving and working at the same time but spinning plates aren't nearly as entertaining if you can only keep one moving right the real magic happens when you're able to do this kind of juggling act and get a good rhythm going be sure to keep an eye out.
